Kuala Lumpur and Selangor
Kuala Lumpur is one of the fastest-growing cities in the world, with businesses and hotels rising at such a rate that the city is experiencing a major labour shortage. The Golden Triangle is the showpiece of Malaysia's economic boom. Here you will find most of the luxury hotels and highrise buildings including the world's tallest - the twin Petronas and KL Towers. This is the place to shop, dine and party until the small hours. The main drag of this new heart of KL is Jalan Sultan Ismail to the north east of the traditional centre of the city. The old heart of colonial KL is Merdeka Square where you find magnificent Moorish and colonial architecture, especially worth a visit is the KL Train Station. The city is situated at the confluence of the Klang and Gombak rivers and was originally founded as a tin-mining camp. Today it is one of Asia's most attractive, green, and tidy cities, although traffic is becoming a severe problem. The city is well maintained and still retains areas of parklands. To the avid shopper, KL is paradise. From world-renowned designer labels and brands to exquisite made-in-Malaysia items, the highly competitive environment that exists among traders is a blessing in disguise to shoppers. While department stores practice a fixed price policy, bargain hunters can test their skills at smaller retail establishments or at any one of KL's famous night markets.

Selangor: The state of Selangor is on the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Its capital, Shah Alam, is situated between Kuala Lumpur and Port Klang, the country's largest port. Hailed as one of Asia's best planned cities, Shah Alam boasts of modern infrastructure, communications and service facilities. Resource-rich Selangor is Malaysia's premier state, being the richest and the most developed. Its economy is diversified with a good mixture of agricultural, industrial, commercial and tourism activities.

Recommended Restaurants
American Chili's
This US franchise bar and grill is popular for its extra-large portions of American classics such as burgers, beef ribs, fajitas and buffalo wings. Lighter fare includes grilled chicken caesar, which could still be adequately shared by two. Combos, such as ribs and chicken are also available. Fun atmosphere and a large bar make for a great night out. Unfortunately they don't accept reservations so you may have to wait at the bar for table to become available on weekends especially.
Citrus Rouge Restaurant
Just down the road from the Shangri-La Hotel this seriously hip place serves modern, continental food. Beautifully decorated in red gold and gauzy white, the restaurant also features a dance floor under the stars and one of the city's burgeoning cigar divans. A great place to people watch.
